Woodland Walk

My woodland walk

In 2020, staying in Holsworthy, Devon I was enjoying walking and exploring the town.  I could see a railway viaduct over the road, with grass growing on it.  Walking up a side street I came to a busy supermarket car park.  This seemed to give access to the old railway line.

What a joy I found as I walked onto what had once been the train line.   This was now a long, narrow strip of woodland where Nature had taken over.  She had transformed the old, disused railway line into a long narrow strip of woodland.  A variety of trees and bushes with paths where I could wander.  It was so peaceful.  There was no sound from the car park or road, simply quiet and amazing greenery.  I sat happily sketching this wonderful place.

In my studio I painted three 75 x 50 cm oil paintings and called them Woodland Walk 1, 2 and 3.  I have tried to capture the light, the peace and calmness I felt in this lovely place.  Please enjoy.
